Understanding the Maryland MDOT Driver Education Program with Drivers Edu

At Drivers Edu Driving School, we take pride in delivering a structured and compliant driver education program that aligns with the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) regulations. The MDOT Driver Education Program is state-mandated, owned, and regulated by MDOT, meaning that all certified driving schools, including ours, must strictly follow their guidelines.

Who Controls the MDOT Driver Education Program?

It’s important to understand that driving schools do not create or control the MDOT Driver Education Program. Instead, we are certified and regulated by MDOT to provide their curriculum, track student progress, and report completion statuses accordingly. MDOT establishes the rules, grading policies, and requirements, while we ensure compliance and deliver the program as instructed.

What to Expect from the MDOT Driver Education Program

At Drivers Edu, we have been faithfully delivering this program for over 20 years while maintaining full compliance with Maryland’s regulations. To successfully complete the course, students must:

  • Complete 30 hours of classroom instruction

  • Complete 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction with a certified instructor

  • Achieve a minimum passing grade of 80% (only then can we report their completion electronically to MDOT)

We understand that not everyone will be satisfied with every aspect of the process, but our role is to ensure that all students meet the requirements set by MDOT nothing more, nothing less. We will not delay anyone’s progress unnecessarily, nor can we waive any of the mandated requirements.

Meeting Maryland’s Rookie Driver Requirements

In addition to completing the driver education program, students must also fulfill Maryland’s Rookie Driver Program requirements. This includes:

  • Logging additional supervised driving hours as outlined in the Rookie Driver Log

  • Completing the driver education course within the 18-week timeframe allowed

We are committed to providing transparency, affordability, and trust in helping students successfully meet MDOT requirements. Our goal is to work alongside students and their driving coaches to ensure a smooth and efficient learning process.

If you have any questions about the program or requirements, feel free to contact us. We look forward to helping you navigate the road to obtaining your Maryland driver’s license!
